Pictures from SHOT 99
The new Armalite AR-50 single shot rifle in .50BMG - for those of you who like BIG guns!
The Blaser R93 Tactical, Blaser also have a range of hunting rifles using a similar straight-pull mechanism - very high quality.
The new FN Forty-Nine pistol - likely to give Glock a run for their money!
The two new rifles from H&K - .45 carbine at top, SL-8 5.56mm underneath. Note the narrowed magazine wells which prevents the use of large capacity magazines in accordance with curious US import provisions.
The curious but legal Mateba rifle, based on the Mateba revolver. That stock is sheet steel and is fixed.
The new line of Steyr SBS tactical rifles, half the price of the SSG. Rifle in middle has ten-round magazine kit, bottom rifle has McMillan stock.
The SIG-Sauer P220 Sport, one of the Sport models which have stainless steel frames and slides. Spoiled by the bad compensator design.
SIG arms' answer to the Glock, the SIGPro, which has an awful trigger pull though the grip is not too bad with the use of the rubber grip. This is an unusual two-tone version of the rubber grip.
SIG arms' new compact .45, the P245, is essentially a cutdown P220.
The new Steyr M40, Steyr's answer to the Glock which is positively festooned with safety devices - trigger safety, a Garand-type safety visible just above my forefinger, and a lock on the trigger pin!
A Walther P99 made for the hunter - note the wooden backstrap and the ornate engraving on the slide - this gun may qualify under Section 7(3) as a firearm of particular aesthetic quality. Note also the improved shape of the trigger which feels much better than the old design. Another interesting feature are the unusual sights.

"The liberties of our country, the freedom of our civil constitution are worth defending at all hazards; and it is our duty to defend them against all attacks. We have received them as a fair inheritance from our worthy ancestors: they purchased them for us with toil and danger and expense of treasure and blood, and transmitted them to us with care and diligence. It will bring an everlasting mark of infamy on the present generation, enlightened as it is, if we should suffer them to be wrested from us by violence without a struggle, or be cheated out of them by the artifices of false and designing men." - Samuel Adams, 1771.
