This appears to be the day for Canadian firearm caselaw.
The Firearms Act 1995 lists various firearm offences that are subject to a mandatory minimum of 4 years, in Canada though you often only serve a third of your sentence.
The only way out of it is if the sentence would be "grossly disproportionate" under the charter of rights and freedoms.
Only three things are certain: death, taxes and stupid gun laws.
