Hi Aaron,

Not sure about the cleaning kit. The prism is probably for an armoured vehicle periscope or something of that nature. I recall the trilux lamps being used as markers. I think that's what we used for setting up the GPMG for sustained fire at night but my memory is a bit hazy on that. Do they still glow?

The picture of what I presume is your bedroom cracked me up! Nice collection though.

Why not take that nice old No.4 to AJ Parkers in Birmingham and swap it for a real one? You'll find shooting it is more interesting than looking at it. If you look here:
http://www.nra.org.uk/common/asp/links/links.asp?site=NRA&cat=4
You'll find details of a shooting club near you that will help.

Best wishes,

Neil Mac'

Do you have any dimensions for this? Looks like some sort of MMG cleaning kit. Markings? Always helps on a photo to put a ruler next to it to get some idea of scale:

I'd agree with Neil Mac on this, but I've never been an AFV crewman. Have you tried (ignore the banter) posting on arrse? There's loads of 'cold war warriors on there.'

Agree with Neil Mac on the trilux, placed on marking posts for gimpy SF.

I'd also agree with him about using a real No4, though purists (and real shooters!) will point you in the direction of a SMLE.
Cheers
Mick Fidgeon:-)

Side pouches on your bergan need filling, or removing and placing under the lid. Too much noise when packed like that Wink

Careful where you publish this though as some will have you down as a 'closet commando.' Are you in the ACF?

It's a bind living with your parents if they don't share your interests but it doesn't necessarily stop you from joining a shooting club. Take a look at the link I posted and ask the clubs some questions. Be aware that you can come across as looking a bit daft/odd (a closet commando as Mick puts it) if you appear to be obsessive about de-ac machine guns etc. In the shooting world, de-ac collectors who don't shoot or collect live firearms are often stereotyped as being Walter Mitty types. It might not be fair or true but it does happen.
I'm sure that if you have a healthy interest in target shooting or game shooting that most everybody on here would be pleased to point you in the right direction. Don't pay too much attention to us stick-in-the-muds getting irate about points of firearms legislation and the behaviour of the government; most everyone here agrees that decent, honest people should not be denied access to firearms for target shooting and sporting purposes.

All the best,

Neil Mac'

Take your dad to the club with you. You don't need to go to the lengths of trying to convince him to let you do something he dosen't like if you can entice him to like it in the first place?

I can't think of anyone on here who doesn't. But that'd be a unanimous agreement, and we can't have that Wink

In the first place, call it the TA, not the TA's. Anyone who's a sTAb will pick you up on that.
