Some of you may be aware that Gary Hyde (York Guns) was convicted of unlawfully brokering the sale of small arms to Nigeria a few years back.
Anyway, he appealed his sentence (not his conviction, he plead guilty) and also the forfeiture order of the small arms involved in the deal. He lost the appeal against his sentence but because the arms are held by a corporation and the corporation was not convicted, the forfeiture order has been quashed.
This means there is a cache of thousands of Serbian AKs in the UK and apparently the idea is to have at least some of them deactivated. _________________ Steve.

So he's going to recoupe some costs through deactivation? Could parts like the muzzle brakes be legally used as spares for straight pulls Steve? |

Skydock, the company that originally was holding the firearms had their S5 revoked a few months back, police seized all their stock. Any information on why? |

Because the police argued there was a court order and the stock was therefore illegally possessed, which has now been quashed. The police tried to argue having so many guns stored in one place was also a threat to public safety, which was readily dismissed as a reason to seize them given that Notts. Police have some of the stock in their area and didn't see a reason to do anything.
Skydock have been attempting to put a lien against the inventory to recover the storage costs, the court ruled it would be wrong to seize the inventory given that, and also that the corporation that possesses the firearms was not convicted, only Gary Hyde.
So I suspect they will get their section 5 authority back. _________________ Steve.

Component parts are subject to the lowest classification when they're parts, per Guy Savage's Court of Appeal ruling, so they could be broken up into parts I suppose. Dealers are generally leery of using parts that have come from prohibited firearms though.
Given the change in the definition of a component part in the Policing and Crime Act, perhaps they'll be less worried now. _________________ Steve.
