Rise coincides with increased smuggling.

Two young girls shot in playground. This appears to have been targeted. Embarassed

Gang violence rising.

Toronto Police seize 78 firearms from street gang.

Bill doesn't go far enough say critics.

The problem with this last article is that it's wrong, it does include provisions allowing the police to more easily trace firearms and also this appears to contradict the first article:

Quote:
“Troubling is the fact that about 50 per cent of all handguns used in crime, that we have been able to trace, have been diverted from legal Canadian firearm owners,” Harel told the committee on May 29.

Bearing in mind all sales of handguns are reported to the police and they've apparently let some large straw purchases through, which is on them.

As this article illustrates.

Quote:
Nordheimer wrote that he was dumbfounded that Winchester, who expressed remorse in court, and his acquaintance were able to carry on the scheme for so long without any detection by police.

So anyway the upshot is that with rising armed crime in Toronto and a gun control Bill in Parliament, you can guess what's likely to happen next...

...I must be psychic.

Complaints that gun bill doesn't go far enough.

That's a really comprehensive article, worth reading.

This StatsCan Powerpoint presentation is quite interesting.

Mass shooting.

Killer had severe mental issues.

Which makes it sound unlikely he had the gun legally as he'd been receiving treatment all his life.

Watching the kneejerk reaction to this is quite interesting.

Have a read of this editorial for example.

And all this blather.

And then CTV apparently went as far as saying the gun had been stolen from a legal owner in Saskatchewan... except... the gun was obtained from his brother who is a gang member and it came from the US. And it appears to have been in his brother's possession for a long time.

Which then caused CTV to rewrite their story and insert some new paragraphs.

The reality is that the media was creating a narrative and the narrative was very wrong. The reality is that the sample sizes of traced guns seized in Canada are too small to say where the guns come from, as that StatsCan presentation points out in the post above.

C-71 is now too far along in the legislative process to be changed substantially and handgun ownership in Canada is as common as shotgun ownership in GB so we shall see what Mr Trudeau does.

I don't know, these "police sources" they keep quoting are very contradictory. Apparently the shooter's brother was responsible for this drug seizure which I posted when it happened: https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/police-make-massive-seizure-of-carfentanil-in-home-east-of-toronto-1.3634673

So some sources say all the guns were the same make and model and came from the US, others say some of the guns were from Canada. Suffice to say it was very far from being legal. And the guy is in a coma in hospital from handling carfentanil apparently.

These are the press releases on the seizure and that seems to show mainly Glock 26s and Glock 19s as well as a TEC-9 - all of which are prohibited in Canada so it would seem likely they came from the US. The gun he used apparently was a .40

I heard the haul was enough to kill 3.5 billion, certainly its strong stuff if just handling him has put him in a coma. I hung around on the gunowners of canada forum and someone tracked an IP editing the wikipedia page to the parliament building in ottawa.

This is a bit of hyperbole, yes theoretically you could kill a lot of people but it's clearly a drug and the evidence is that his brother was a drug dealer, I doubt he was planning on selling only one dose to each customer.

I know its theoretical but the end result is the strength is enough to have put him in a coma just by handling it by what I presume was barehands? Also the longer a person is in a coma the more brain damage they sustain so chances of getting any answers if he wakes up are slim.

It can kill you just by handling it. The CSSA is trying to make out this is some sort of terrorist conspiracy but that's ridiculous.

So he's just in coma despite it being capable of killing a person? Either he didn't handle it long or was lucky. I still stand by saying the police wont get any answers when he wakes. The family has alot of drama, besides the son who's done the shooting killing himself at the end, dad's and sister are dead and the mother is no where to be seen.
